Valley Regional Transit (VRT) has completed work on a regional operations and capital improvement plan (ROCIP). All regional services in Ada and Canyon counties, including VRT’s bus operations in Boise, Garden City, Nampa, Caldwell and intercounty service, and ACHD Commuteride were evaluated and modified to maximize these services within current budgets. This plan defines and provides the foundation and direction for expansion of services as budgetary considerations change in the future. Information gained from the plan will be incorporated into VRT’s long-range goals.
History
In fall 2003, Valley Regional Transit started work on a regional operations and capital improvement plan. All regional services in Ada and Canyon counties, including ValleyRide bus operations in Boise, Garden City, Nampa, Caldwell, intercounty service, and ACHD Commuteride were evaluated and modified to maximize these services within current budgets. This plan defines and provides the foundation and direction for expansion of services as budgetary considerations change in the future. Information gained from this plan will be incorporated into VRT's long-range goals.
The first deliverable for the ROCIP, called "Existing Conditions," laid out data about the existing fixed-route system's ridership and performance. This data included details on ridership at every single stop throughout a typical weekday, as well as data on land use patterns, current development activity, and other contextual information. Input from VRT staff, drivers and line supervisors was alco collected and synthesized in the report.
Based on the Existing Conditions report, Nelson/Nygaard conducted the first of two intensive on-site service planning sessions during the week of December 1, 2003. This work included a series of workshops with the Regional Operations and Planning Committee, members of the ValleyRide Board, operators and a number of regional stakeholders. These workshops were focused around a broader discussion of service allocation goals and policies and encouraged participants to provide detailed information about how they feel limited public transportation resources should be utilized throughout the region.
