Valleyconnect

   Welcome to the information page for valleyconnect. On this page you will find information about the plan, the history of alternative transportation planning by Valley Regional Transit, and how you can provide us with information about your traveling habits and needs.

   The purpose of valleyconnect is to establish a vision of the comprehensive alternative transportation system needed, given the growth projections and regional and local land use and road plans. The plan will serve as a guide to the region as individual components are implemented to ensure that each piece builds logically toward the complete system.

   Valleyconnect started with existing transportation plans as a base. These specific plans, completed over the past several years, were consolidated and duplications were eliminated. Next, area growth projections and local jurisdictions land use plans were used to bring information up-to-date.

    Valleyconnect identifies transportation options, other than driving alone, that are currently available in Ada and Canyon counties, and future transportation options. It also documents the information network to help customers use these services.

   The valleyconnect plan was approved by the VRT Board of Directors at its Aug. 17 meeting. The plan will be taken to individual jurisdictions for review and consideration.

   REGIONAL PLANNING HISTORY

2005 - TREASURE VALLEY IN TRANSIT  (the predecessor to valleyconnect)

In 2003, Valley Regional Transit began working on the development of a regional public transportation plan that would provide transit services to alll incorporated areas of Ada and Canyon counties. This plan, called Treasure Valley in Transit (TVIT), was approved by the VRT Board of Directors in the summer of 2005.
   TVIT was a comprehensive plan to to expand bus and rapid transit services in the Treasure Valley. There were four types of improvements in the plan:

» more routes and more frequent service within cities;
» more express bus service between cities;
» the initiation of rapid transit service;
» new transit centers and stops.

 Why was the Treasure Valley in Transit Plan updated?
1). To update and integrate all of VRT's plans to date, including:

  • incorporating more detail regarding the services planned for rural communities;
  • incorporating and updating assumptions regarding local land use planning that has occurred since the Treasure Valley in Transit plan was adopted;
  • Integrate VRT's mobility plan into the Southwest idaho (District 3) local network planning process.

2). To identify a governance and public involvement approach for the region that will support effective decision-making and assure effective advocacy for constituents. Elements of this will include:

  • formation of a Community Resource Group;
  • formation of a Technical Resource Group;
  • developing clear definitions as to the roles of the Regional Coordination Council as an advisory panel to the VRT Board.

2003 - Rail Corridor Evaluation

   The rail corridor evaluation was completed in April 2003. URS/BRW evaluated the rail corridor between Boise and Caldwell. The evaluation included cost estimates and other variables to pursue rail service.

HOW YOU CAN HELP

Thank you to everyone who attended a series of seven public meetings held recently in Greenleaf, Middleton Notus, Kuna, Melba, Wilder and Parma. The meetings were designed to provide information about the Treasure Valley in Transit plan update and listen to what officials and the general public had to say about transportation needs in their cities.

   We currently have an on-line survey to learn more about the travel habits of Treasure Valley residents. The survey results will help VRT staff determine the service options that would be supported in the various jurisdictions. Please take a few minutes to take the survey (click on the link above) and help us plan for the future.
