SUMMARY:VRT Public Hearing: Meridian Service Discontinuation
DESCRIPTION:Based on low ridership and ready alternatives\, VRT proposed to the City of Meridian\, to suspend Route 30 Pine\, which serves Meridian. Currently\, Route 30 and Route 45 work together to provide extended commute service with periods of 30-minute service between Ten Mile and the Village. Existing riders will be able to use Route 45 to complete their current trips. \nVRT has scheduled a public hearing to gather testimony regarding these service cuts\, preceded by an open house for the public to review information. DESCRIPTION:Skip the parking and take Valley Regional Transit to the Boise Soul Food Festival at Julia Davis Park! The festival takes place from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and several VRT routes stop right in front of the park\, making it easy to get there. \n\nBUS TO SOUL FOOD FEST\nComing from South Boise? \nRoute #3 Vista stops directly in front of Julia Davis Park. Buses are scheduled to arrive every 30 minutes from 7:15 AM to 9:30 PM from the airport to downtown Boise along Vista. \nComing from West Boise? \n\nRoute #5 Emerald stops directly in front of Julia Davis Park. We are adding more service from Towne Square Mall to downtown Boise via Emerald\, with buses arriving every hour from 8 AM to 11 AM and every 30 minutes from 11 AM to 8 PM. \nPark & Ride for free at Towne Square Mall! \nComing from Overland? \n\nRoute #29 Overland stops directly in front of Julia Davis Park. DESCRIPTION:VRT October Service Change \nDate: Thursday\, October 1\, 2026\nService Area: Ada and Canyon Counties \nValley Regional Transit will implement several service changes beginning Thursday\, October 1\, 2026. The changes include updates to Routes 30 and 40\, VRT On-Demand\, and VRT Access service in Meridian\, Nampa\, and Caldwell. \nRoute 30 – Pine \n\nRoute 30 Pine will be discontinued based on low ridership and the availability of alternative service.\nCurrent Route 30 riders will be able to continue making similar connections using Route 45.\n\nRoute 40 \n\nRoute 40 service in Nampa will be eliminated following the Nampa City Council’s decision to partially fund VRT services.\nThe updated Route 40 will begin at Happy Day Transit Center and travel to downtown Caldwell instead of Nampa.\nFrom Caldwell\, the route will use the Franklin Road on-ramp to access I-84\, stop at the Ten Mile Park & Ride in Meridian\, and continue to Boise State University.\n\nVRT On-Demand \n\nVRT On-Demand service in Nampa will be eliminated.\nVRT On-Demand will continue operating in Caldwell.\nCaldwell riders will still be able to travel to designated VRT partner destinations in Nampa\, including St. Luke’s\, Saint Alphonsus\, and College of Western Idaho (CWI) campuses.\nRiders can also use VRT On-Demand to reach the CWI Main Campus Park & Ride and connect with Route 42.\n\nVRT Access \n\nWith the discontinuation of Route 30 Pine in Meridian\, the VRT Access service area associated with Route 30 will also be discontinued.\nVRT’s other paratransit and medical transportation services\, including Beyond Access and Rides2Wellness\, will continue to be available.\n\nThese changes reflect local funding decisions\, ridership levels\, and VRT’s efforts to provide as much useful and reliable service as possible with available resources. \nVRT will provide information and assistance to riders ahead of the October 1 transition.
