Real-time information signs arrive at VRT bus stops

Valley Regional Transit (VRT) has launched a pilot program to bring real-time information displays to bus stops, offering riders up-to-the-minute arrival information, service alerts, and text-to-speech functionality for a more accessible rider experience. The first display was installed over the weekend at bus stop AB513 at 18th & State, which is served by VRT’s Route 9.

As part of the pilot, four vendors have been selected to provide RTI display units:

  • ETA
  • Mercury Innovation
  • Urban Solar
  • Papercast

Each vendor will be evaluated at different locations throughout the region. Over the next year, the displays will be evaluated by performance, cost, durability, program integration, customer service, and rider satisfaction.

VRT will seek public input once all displays are installed so riders will have a chance to share their experiences and help shape the future of real-time information in our region.

At the conclusion of the 12-month pilot, the highest-performing vendor will be selected for broader rollout across the VRT system.

The project is being funded with a combination of local and federal funds and is part of VRT’s efforts to bring better amenities to the traveling public.
