VRT offers ACCESS, a paratransit service, for users who are unable to use the fixed route service.

Pay on the Bus

As soon as you step on-board, there will be a machine to purchase a one-way or all-day pass. Plan to have exact change with cash or coins on-hand. The buses do not accept debit or credit cards. You may also purchase a mobile ticket through the app, or use a Stored Value card to purchase a pass on the bus.

To ensure accurate ridership counts, every passenger boarding the bus must use some form of payment (cash, stored value, one-day or longer pass). If you are scheduling a large outing or field trip and plan to ride the bus, each passenger must use one of these payment options. One-day passes can be purchased on the bus in separate transactions or bought in advance from our Help Desk at 208-345-7433.

Universal passes are good for all bus services (Routes 1-29, 40-45, 150, 160). All passes (except for the one-year pass) will expire one year from the day of purchase, if not used. Once activated, the day passes will expire by midnight of that day, and the month passes will expire 31 days after activation.

Where to Buy

There’s a lot of complexity in running a public transit system, but we try to simplify the travel experience as much as possible while we get you from point A to point B. Here are a few things riders should know about how fares can be paid at each location.

  • Pay fare on the bus icon

    On-Board the Bus

Riders pay for their fare at a fare box upon entering the bus. Insert your cash or change in the top of the machine and tell the driver what type of fare or pass you’d like to purchase—a one-way ride or an all-day pass. If you don’t know, ask!

Exact change is best. Our machines don’t give change. They dispense a change card in the amount of the remaining total. Change cards can be used like a Stored Value Card on board.

Make sure to tell your driver if you qualify for discounted fare or you need a Universal pass. See which routes require universal fare (certain routes going between Ada and Canyon counties).

You can also purchase your bus fare or passes on the Umo Mobility mobile ticketing app.
