VRT and Micron partner with $11.6 million transit investment for regional bus routes and local VRT On-Demand

Micron and VRT today announced an $11.6 million investment in public transit over five years to expand regional bus service with a new route, additional Park & Ride locations across the Treasure Valley, and a new VRT On-Demand service near Micron’s Boise campus.

The collaboration reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that transportation infrastructure keeps pace with the region’s growth while creating new opportunities for residents, employees, students, and visitors to connect with jobs, education, services, and one another.

  • Route 41: The new Route 41 will connect Caldwell, Nampa, Meridian, and Boise with key stops in Downtown Caldwell, the College of Idaho, the College of Western Idaho, Ten Mile Crossing, the Boise Airport, and Micron. Route 41 will run all day, seven days a week – VRT’s first ever all-week service. More than 40,000 more valley residents will be within a mile of the service and the enhanced Park & Ride design will expand access to many more potential riders with a projected 200,000 riders as the route matures.
  • VRT On-Demand: VRT On-Demand will be introduced to southeast Boise and will provide service around Micron’s headquarters, seven days a week. The service would expand transportation access for 20,000+ people, connect riders to existing VRT routes, and is projected to reach 64,000 annual riders by year five. By introducing VRT On-Demand in Southeast Boise we offer access and all-day connections to a part of Boise that has long asked for and needed more robust transit.

“Getting people to work, school, and everyday destinations is how a growing region stays connected. Micron’s significant $11.6 million investment over five years will expand regional bus services and introduce VRT On-Demand in Boise, giving all residents of the valley a flexible way to get around. As congestion continues to increase, transit provides a proven alternative that can reduce the number of vehicles on the road. We are grateful for Micron’s partnership, leadership, and commitment to our community, and riders will see it on the road with Micron-supported vehicles and services early next year.”

– Elaine Clegg, CEO

As Micron continues its historic expansion in Idaho, transportation access remains a critical component of connecting current and future employees to opportunity. Through this partnership, VRT and Micron will work together on a transportation solution that supports employee mobility while delivering broader benefits to the community.
