Main Street Station update: buses return to the Lower Deck August 23

Main Street Station’s electric charger installation is one step closer to completion. Beginning Saturday, August 23, the routes currently staging on 9th & Grove will move back inside the station’s Lower Deck, reopening a portion of the indoor boarding area for the first time since construction began earlier this summer.

This marks an important milestone in VRT’s project to upgrade Main Street Station and bring on-route electric bus charging infrastructure to downtown Boise.

What’s Changing August 23?

Routes returning inside: Routes 3, 4, 5, and 29 will move from 9th & Grove to the Lower Deck of Main Street Station.

Temporary route order: These routes will all use bus bays on the west side of Main Street Station, with routes 3, 5, and 29 returning to the bays they used before the closure. Route 4 will load from the west side until Main Street Station fully reopens.

Only the west side of the boarding area and bus bays will reopen. The east side will stay closed until construction wraps up early next year.

What’s Next?

While the Lower Deck will reopen for buses, electric chargers will not be in use right away. The final phase of construction, including the installation and activation of charging equipment, will continue into early 2026. Once the project is complete, the station will fully reopen, and bus boarding orders will be updated again to reflect the new layout.

In the meantime, riders can continue to use the Main Street Station waiting area, restrooms, and Customer Service desk during normal hours.

Rider Tips
  • Follow the signs. Watch for updated boarding information posted throughout the station.
  • Ask for help. VRT’s Customer Service team will be available to assist riders during the transition.
  • Stay tuned. More updates will be shared as we get closer to full project completion.
